Thanks to my credit card ThankYou points, I am now the owner of a nice new Epson v700 scanner! This means that instead of paying an exorbitant amount to have my 35mm and 120 film developed and scanned, now I can just have them developed (until I start developing them) and scan them myself. Epson doesn’t do the greatest job in giving instructions for more than just a basic photo scan, so it might take some time to learn and adjust my settings.

I’ve saved up a few rolls that are all waiting patiently to be scanned. The first roll to be scanned was some Ilford Delta 400 Pro 120 film from an early morning walk in Baltimore with some fellow photographers from around a month ago. Here are some of those photos. You may notice that the last photo is a bit of a jumble. I was using my Mamiya645 and wanted to try the multiple exposure switch. I thought that I could continue to take photos on one frame and when I wound the film it would move to the next frame. Unfortunately winding the film doesn’t do anything when the multiple exposure switch is on. This meant I was stuck on frame 11 for a long time. Of course I didn’t realize this until a few days later when it hit me that the roll was never ending and there must be a problem.

127 . . . Archives I

Hello again. Remember me? Although the technical issues have been resolved (woohoo new Macbook Pro!), I have been in a serious creative slump lately. I tried to draw up some postcards and wasn’t happy with anything I put to paper. I’ve been inspired to shoot a lot more film lately, but it takes a while before I actually see the results (should get some rolls developed and scanned in the next few weeks). In the meantime, I have been backing up all my old CDs that I burned back in college, and have found some rather amusing/interesting/nostalgic files. There are lots of photos, projects and papers, many of which I forgot about until opening them these past weeks. It’s been fun looking back around ten years to see what I was up to.

On one of these CDs I found scans of some old doodles from 2001. Below are three of these doodles as well as some tunes I was definitely listening to that year. There is no symbolism or deep meaning, so no need to look for it.

I am back and hopefully the technical issues are all taken care of. As usual, the Saturday before Easter I spent most of the day decorating eggs. I won’t go into the specifics since they are already mentioned in previous posts here and here. The only difference this year was that I bought Ukrainian dyes to test out. I bought edible and non-edible dye and was kind of shocked to see which colors worked and which didn’t. I thought for sure the non-edible dyes would be more vibrant, however some of the colors (like the green) barely stayed on the egg. I will have to try again next year and see if I did something wrong. I was pretty impressed with the black, both edible and non-edible (as you can see I used it a lot).

It’s always great to see what other people come up with. My brother went with a minimal design on some of his eggs this year and focused more on playing with color. My cousin, on the other hand, was a big fan of dots and filling her eggs completely with the design. Below are some of my favorite margučiai from some friends and family.

Technical Difficulties . . .

Hello . . . I realize I have been a delinquent as of late on this blog. There really is no excuse, but I will just say that the combination of my laptop dying last week (which had my card reader in it) along with spending the week wandering around DC/VA/NYC with my cousin, has slowed down my posting. I am hoping to remedy that soonish though. In the meantime . . . if you haven’t already seen it, enjoy this.
