Project #30: Enameled Pendant

Filed under: enamel, favorites, jewelry by ramune

One of these days I will post these projects on a timely basis. Until then, you will have to put up with my lateness. Having said that, this is number 30 and I am pretty excited about it. There isn’t much to say except that the red came out a bit darker than I intended it to but I think I like it better this way. Sorry for the glare, I need to figure out a good setup for photographing my pieces. They are so shiny that I think a certain amount might be unavoidable.

Project #29: Etching on Copper II

I have been working on a couple things in my Enameling on Metal class, but nothing quite ready to show yet. Here is another piece I etched this past week. Unfortunately the muriatic acid and hydrogen peroxide solution I used last time did not work so well this time so I ended up using ferric chloride in class to try to etch a little deeper. It’s not as deep as I would normally like it and I need to clean it up a bit before I enamel it, but I had limited time and decided this would do for now. I am hoping to have some enameled pieces up within the next couple weeks.

In other news, my friend Elisabeth got married this past weekend at The Homestead in Hot Springs, VA. Photos are here.

Project #28: Sheep & Wool Festival

Last weekend two of my cousins, Siga and Mantas, came to visit and we went to the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival. I think I liked the New York Sheep & Wool Festival better (more goats, alpaca and other wool producing animals), but it was still fun to see the variety of sheep and the sheep dog demonstration is always entertaining. You can check the rest of the photos from the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival here. Below is one of my favorite photos from the day . . . I didn’t know sheep had gummy teeth!

The photo isn’t great, but I still think it’s hilarious. This kid must have been so bored, she just stayed there waiting to be sheered.
