Project #5: Turkey Trot 5K Costumes

Filed under: Collaboration, Costumes, Friends, Silliness by ramune

Every year for Thanksgiving someone in my family (usually my brother) runs the Virginia Run Turkey Trot 5K. This year Vasare, Linas, Vaidila, Kristina, David and I ran it. We decided to come up with goofy costumes for the trot to make it a little more fun. It all started with Kristina, who found sweatbands and headbands with the Canadian flag on them and it spiraled out from there. A little help from Unique Thrift Store and we were all set. The Turkey Trot was a lot of fun in costume, although I don’t think everyone got it.

Project #4: Philadelphia Marathon Runners

This past weekend David and I went to Philadelphia to support our friend, Ashley, run her first marathon. We managed to get a room at a hotel that was right on the marathon route. At around 7:15 or so we looked out the balcony and took some shots of the runners at the .5 mile mark. I attempted to take a motion shot similar to the ones you see of cars driving at night where all you can see are lines where the headlights were. I had an idea what it would look like, but it came out a bit different. I particularly like the effect of everyones’ white shoes.

Project #3: Chocolate Fudge Cake

Filed under: Baking, taste by ramune

Mmm . . . this week I decided to bake a chocolate fudge cake from my mother’s very worn and very (well) used notebook of recipes. This notebook was so used in fact that the handwriting on the other side of the page has seeped through so I could barely make out what some of the ingredients and directions were. The recipe was for a chocolate cake with chocolate fudge frosting, however I added some peanut butter frosting for the center. Now if only I could post a slice for you to try . . .

Project #2: Enamel on Metal

Filed under: Enamel, Jewelry by ramune

In an effort to work more with my hands (since I sit at the computer all day) I signed up for an Enameling on Metal class at the Torpedo Factory. The class is nine weeks, and on week seven I finally found my style within enamel. I have been fiddling with different techniques over the weeks and haven’t been too excited about anything that’s come out. This past week (week seven), I worked on two pieces that I am pretty psyched about.
